The Islamabad High Court has ruled that Imran Khan’s arrest from inside court premises by Rangers personnel was legal.
The ruling was announced in a contempt of court notice against the IG and the NAB director general. PTI’s lawyers shouted ‘Shame! Shame!’ in the courtroom.
The court had summoned the NAB director general and prosecutor over PTI chief Imran Khan’s arrest. The IHC judge was irked and asked under what law the former chief was arrested. The court had especially expressed displeasure over the manner in which the arrest was made.
Earlier, the IHC took notice of Khan’s arrest and summoned both the Additional Attorney General and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad.
Rangers arrested the PTI Chief on Tuesday from the premises of the court amid a scuffle between the lawyers and the personnel of rangers.
Khan’s counsel claimed that they were not shown any arrest warrants by the law enforcement agency.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq in his remarks asked how this arrest happened, in which case Imran Khan has been arrested. “If not told, I will summon the Prime Minister.”
Sources said that there are reports that Khan has been arrested in the Al Qadir Trust case, but there was no official word on the arrest.
The former Prime Minister had reached the IHC to appear in two cases. A heavy contingent of police was already deployed there.
