Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to London was extended by a day for consultation on “important” political and national issues, said the information minister.
“The prime minister will now leave for home on Wednesday,” said Marriyum Aurangzeb on Tuesday. “PM Shehbaz Sharif came to Britain for the coronation ceremony of King Charles of Great Britain.”
The decision was taken on the instructions of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.
The decision comes as the country grapples with multiple crises: economic, political, and judicial. The ruling alliance has claimed to have a consensus on the election date with the PTI, but the Khan-led has denied such claims.
According to the PTI, the three rounds of talks were held in a “good environment” but they have not reached a consensus on elections.
The elections to the Punjab Assembly are scheduled to be held on May 14, according to the Supreme Court order. But the ruling alliance has excused itself to hold polls, citing a shortage of funds as the reason.
Parliament has also passed a bill clipping CJP’s powers, which has become an act of Parliament, prompting a standoff with the Supreme Court.
