A North Carolina man had a close encounter with a bear after it strolled into his carport on Tuesday, April 11.

In surveillance video, David Oppenheimer can be seen reading a book as he relaxed in a lounge chair just moments before the bear entered the carport.

Surprised by the bear’s sudden appearance just several feet away from him, Oppenheimer recoiled, causing the bear to look up at him.

Both appeared to look at each other for just over a second before the bear groaned and went back the way he came.
