PTI Chief Imran Khan has said that a new crackdown against his party was being launched around Eid and it could begin as early as on Ramazan 27 (Tuesday)
He made the statement shortly after PTI Leader leader Ali Zaidi was arrested in Karachi on Saturday afternoon.
Aaj News reported that police arrested the PTI leader from the PTI Sindh House, a key office of the party, in Defence Karachi.
Policemen in uniform and plainclothes whisked him away, PTI Spokesperson Musarrat Cheema said.
The spokesperson said the police official also ransacked the PTI office.
The police officials were keen on seizing the mobile phones of Ali Zaidi. They also took away phones from other PTI leaders who were at PTI Sindh House to see Zaidi, a PTI Sindh spokesperson told Aaj News.
PTI’s Dr Iftikhar Durrani tweeted videos showing Zaidi being bundled into a white SUV, with police flashlights mounted on its roof.
Zaidi was picked up by unidentified and identified people, he said.
Imran Khan condemned the arrest saying it was part of the London Plan.
“Strongly condemn arrest of another of our senior leaders, Ali Zaidi from Karachi. All part of the London Plan where Nawaz given assurances PTI would be crushed. Over 3000 PTI workers arrested, abducted, terrorised. Ali Amin & now Ali Zaidi abducted,” he said.
Imran Khan has repeatedly talked about an alleged “London Plan” that he believes envisaged the ouster of the PTI and the return of Nawaz Sharif to power in Pakistan.
He said in another episode of the plan, a new wave of arrests was expected over Eid on the next weekend.
“A new plan underway for more illegal police plus action in Zaman Park after 27 Ramazan or over Eid. They think this will weaken us in case elections are held. Let me state categorically this will not work. People’s anger only increasing & they will see the blowback of this nefarious London Plan in elections.”
