A case has been registered against a jirga in Jacobabad that had imposed an Rs5 million fine on two policemen for killing two suspects in an alleged encounter.
Last week, the Jirga fined two policemen Dilawar Hussain Sabhayo and Muhammad Ali Panhwar after declaring them guilty of killing two people, directing them to deposit the money in three instalments.
Two years ago, Bakhtiyar and Muhammad Sher of Jakhrani tribe were killed by the policemen in an alleged encounter with police.
Jacobabad district and session court judge Abdul Ghafoor Kalhoro took notice of news reports and asked SSP Jacobabad Dr Sumair Noor Channa to appear in person before the court and submit his report.
The FIR names 17 suspects who participated in the jirga.
The Jirga was presided over by Sardarzada Mir Changez Khan Panhwar, son of former PPP MPA politician Mir Manzoor Khan Panhwar, and Mir Sabir Hussain Jakhrani, cousin of former PPP MNA Aijaz Jakhrani.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2019 judgment declared all the jirgas as illegal. However, this parallel justice system continues to exist in several areas of the country.
