A Rangers lance naik and his wife were shot dead in Sukkur by the woman’s ex-husband, who was remanded into custody on Thursday.
The couple had contracted a free will marriage but were shot dead on Tuesday in Bandar Road.
According to police, Ranger’s Lance Naik Ali Akbar Solangi and his wife Zeenat Gadani were heading home after a court hearing when unidentified assailants opened fire on them.
They died on the spot and their four-year-old daughter Umm-e-Kalsoom was injured, Farooq Soomro, a Time News correspondent in Sukkur reported.
The police registered a murder case against six known and two unknown persons on behalf of the state.
Two main nominated suspects Abid Gadani and the women’s ex-husband Madad Ali Gadani were arrested.
“Abid Gadani has confessed to the crime before the Anti-Terrorism Court and said it was an act of honor. The court has sent Abid on six days of remand,” said SHO Mansoor Hatar.
Sukkur SSP Sanghar Malik said they arrested the main suspects within 24 hours and are hunting for the others.
Earlier on, Zeenat’s husband Madad Ali and his mother Rizwana Gadani filed a petition in Sukkur’s family court that Zeenat has entered into a nikkah over an existing nikkah without first getting divorced.
Zeenat appeared in court and told the judge that Madad Ali has verbally divorced her.
