After Punjab, polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be held on October 8, the Election Commission of Pakistan announced on Wednesday.
“The Election Commission of Pakistan notifies October 8, 2023, as the poll date for the General Elections to the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Election Programme for election under Section 57(2) of the Elections Act, 2017 will be issued in due course of time,” read the notification dated March 27.
It means that ECP has pushed the KP election to the same date to which it postponed the Punjab Assembly polls.
KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali had proposed May 28 as the date for the elections, however, he later asked the election commission to stage the polls on October 8 citing security concerns.
Moreover, President Arif Alvi had given the date of April 30 after orders from the Supreme Court.
The Imran Khan-led PTI has already challenged the postponement of the Punjab election in the Supreme Court.
