A professor of the Federal Urdu University in Islamabad was dismissed after a committee found him guilty of harassing a student.
The committee also recommended that the head of the physics department who failed the student after she spoke up be fired from the university.
A student had alleged that one of her professors had sent her inappropriate text messages and had complained about it. However, when she approached three professors to complain, they advised her to keep quiet. They also told her that her studies could be affected if the matter reached her family.
After the girl continued to push her complaint, she was allegdely failed by one mark,
The harassment committee of the university conducted an investigation over one and a half months and found the student’s claims to be true and removed him. The committee also recommended that the head of department was culpable as the student had been failed on false pretexts.
The committee has also recommended that the marking of the student’s future exams should be verified by an impartial forum.
