The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued warrants for Imran khan in a contempt of Chief Election Commission case.
The warrants are bailable and were issued due to continued absence from proceedings.
ECP has ordered IG Islamabad to ensure that Imran Khan is presented in front of the commission on March 14. To secure bail, Imran will have to deposit two surety bonds worth Rs50,000 each.
Warrants have also been issued for Fawad Chaudhry, summoning him on the same date.
The decision by the commission says that the not only did the accuse fail to appear after the notice, they did not even respond to the notice at all. It also says that instead of asking for exemptions from appearance, Imran Khan’s lawyers kept asking for adjournments.
The decision also says that the ECP has obtained record of Imran Khan’s speeches which ‘speak volumes’ about his conduct which amounts to contempt.
“Respondent namely Imran Khan is deliberately seeking adjournments at one or other pretext and also reluctant to appear before this commission which amounts to mockery of law,” the order reads.
