Atleast two labourers were killed and three injured after a structure being built in the Bhara Kahu bypass project collapsed on Saturday.
A statement by the CDA said a trailer with the under-construction pillar for an overhead bridge, causing the shuttering to collapse. Reports said that seven labourers were stuck under the rubble.
Rescue efforts to recover the labourers are underway, with one death confirmed. Out of the three other labourers who have been recovered and taken to the hospital, two are said to be in critical condition.
A security guard who was on duty at the site is still missing and a rescue operation to recover him is underway.
Islamabad’s deputy commissioner is supervising the rescue opeartion in which NLC is also taking part.
The project was innaugurated by PM Shehbaz Sharif in September last year. It is a 5.6km long road including a 1km flyover. The project hopes to ease traffic around the easter part of Islamabad. The project is scheduled to be completed around March.
