The federal government Thursday issued notification to restore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar as the Lahore police chief, almost a week after the Supreme Court of Pakistan passed a judgment that cancelled the orders for his removal.
The caretaker Punjab government removed Dogar as Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) soon after it was formed.
However, the decision was challenged before the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Dogar is considered a pro-PTI police officers and an alleged phone conversation between him and PTI leader Yasmin Rashid seemed to confirm that notion. The phone tape was leaked last week.
A three-member bench reinstated Dogar on February 17 but the notification for the cancellation of earlier government order was not issued until Thursday, February 23.
Without a notification, Dogar could not resume his office.
