Significant progress has been made in the investigation into the Karachi Police attack after 25 witnesses present at the scene recorded their statements.
The high-profile office located at Sharea Faisal was attacked last Friday which left four people martyred and 18 injured. All three terrorists belonging to the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed.
Most of the staff was present on the first floor at the time of the attack, the investigation revealed. “The attackers first threw grenades and disabled the elevator, and started firing, after which all the staff ran towards the second floor,” the investigation officials said.
Some attackers confronted the staff members on the second floor. The attackers signalled the staff to stay in their rooms and they opened fire at the doors of some rooms while being in the corridor themselves. “They also gave voice to the staff outside different rooms.”
Investigators added that the terrorists rushed to the third floor using stairs, and the personnel were martyred during the exchange of fire, possibly the target of the attackers was to reach the fourth floor.
The Sindh police’s five-member committee is investigating the KPO attack.
