Former Pakistan pacer Umar Gul has opened up about Mohammad Hasnain’s remodeled action saying that his biggest concern was the fast bowler might lose his pace.
The legendary pacer, who is serving as the bowling coach for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, was excited to work with the pacer again.
“Our biggest concern was he [Hasnain] might lose his pace,” Gul told reporters at the National Bank Cricket Arena. “However, the good thing about his remodeled action is that he is bowling with excellent pace and feeling better every day.”
The bowling coach said that Gladiators’ below-par performance was due to the partial availability of the foreign players and Hasnain’s ban.
“Our performance was not up to the mark in the last two seasons, that is due to Covid-19 and partial availability of the foreign players,” he said. “Hasnain’s ban was a big blow to us.”
The pacer was banned from bowling in all international and domestic competitions after his action was reported in the Big Bash League last year.
Moreover, he believes that Hasnain has a bright future ahead and he just needs a little guidance.
“Honestly, I had a chat with him in yesterday’s session,” he said. “Self-belief, self-confidence, and clarity of mind are important…if you are going to attempt something. They are key in the T20 cricket.”
“We chat about that last year as well as this year. He has great potential and pace. I think the missing part in him is that he needs to be more focused and have to develop more game awareness.”
“He [Hasnain] can trouble any batter because of his pace,” he concluded.
