Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Malik Amir Dogar along with 12 party workers were arrested in Multan on Wednesday.
The development was made after PTI and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers clashed outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The clashes broke out when candidates from both parties reached the ECP to submit the nomination papers for the NA-155 constituency.
The ECP, taking notice of the incident, directed action against the culprits. Soon after, police raided the guest house of Dogar, and arrested him along with 12 PTI workers.
Multan Police said that Amir Dogar surrendered himself for the arrest. “We only came to arrest the workers, who were involved in the incident.”
The arrested people were taken to a police station in Cantt.
Talking exclusively to Aaj News after the arrest, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that the arrest of Amir Dogar reflects the story of cruelty and fascism, which he condemns.
“Mohsin Naqvi wants to prove himself more loyal than Hamza, we have already announced the Jail Bharo Tehreek and the arrest of Dogar is part of the movement.”
Criticizing the Election Commission, the PTI leader said that the ECP seems to be a subsidiary organisation of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). “The Chief Election Commissioner is violating the constitution.”
