At least two people were injured when an unidentified man sitting in a car, outside the entrance gate of the Karachi Central Jail, opened fire at them on Friday, sources said.
They added that the victim was targeted when he exited from the gate. Women had come to receive the victim. Video footage showed that people near a vehicle outside the jail entrance tried to control a man, who was apparently shooting in the air.
The central jail is located in the centre of Sindh’s capital. It is located at a point from where traffic from Tariq Road, University Road, Saddar, and Teen Hatti converge. Moreover, the flyover overpass bridge near the Chase store that leads to Gurumandir, near jail, is normally closed at night due to security reasons. The area remains busy due to the hospital, food outlets, and other shops in the area.
They added that the victim was moved from the location in another vehicle. Unidentified people also assaulted the women.
Passerbys started running to safe locations after the incident.
Police officials told Aaj News that investigation was under way.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
