The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to consult leaders of major political parties for code of conduct for the next general elections in the country.
Sources say that a draft of the code of conduct has been prepared and leaders of 21 major political parties have been invited for a consultation on February 2. The formal invites have already been sent out.
Reports say that the initial draft of the code of conduct has also been shared along with the invitation.
The parties invited include PTI, PML-N, PPP, MMA and MQM. The JI, TLP, BNP, JWP and Hazara Democratic Party are also among those whose leaders have been invited.
With the duration of the National Assembly set to end this, year, general elections have been the subject of much politicking. Assemblies in two provinces have already been dissolved and will go into elections soon. Meanwhile, with the PTI’s resignations from the National Assembly having been accepted, by elections are also expected on multiple NA seats soon.
