Court denies bail to MQM-London workers arrested for espionage

The Sindh High Court has rejected the bail pleas of five MQM-London workers who have been charged with providing confidential information to the Indian intelligence agency RAW and offering financial support to terrorists.

Shahid alias Muttehda, Adil Ansari, Siraj Ahmed Khan, Majid Khan, and Asif Siddiqui have were denied bail on Monday.

The high court ordered the trial court for an immediate indictment of the accused.

The court said that the accused cannot be released on bail and that the ATC should complete the trial in six months.

The court declared three accused, including Qamar Mansoor’s brother Mehmood Siddiqui, as the most wanted criminals. Muhammad Sufiyan and Muhammad Yasin are two other fugitives.

‘Sleeper cell’

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said that the accused were running a sleeper cell in Pakistan.

MQM-London’s Mehmood Siddiqui was provided a code ID by the Indian intelligence agency RAW, which the wanted accused shared with the arrested members.

The FIA further stated that the accused provided state secrets to India and that Mehmood Siddiqui was paid a hefty amount for espionage.

Mehmood Siddiqui used to keep the funds in various Pakistani banks, according to the FIA.

Siddiqui also sent MQM London members to India for training, according to the charge sheet.

Nearly a dozen MQM-London workers were arrested in the case. One of them named Zafar died due to cardiac arrest.
