Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain suspended on Monday the party membership of Parvez Elahi and sought explanation from him over his statement regarding the possibility of his party’s merger with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the party’s central leadership after Elahi’s announcement of merging the party with PTI.
The PML-Q chief sent a show-cause notice to Elahi and sought an explanation within seven days. The notice stated that a provincial president was not authorized to merge the party with another party. “Therefore, you are asked to submit your response over this unconstitutional act”, the notice added.
A show-cause notice was also sent to Moonis, Hussain Elahi, and Senator Kamil Ali Agha stating that if they had decided to join another party, they should do this after tendering resignations otherwise, they would be de-seated.
Earlier, Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi had called a meeting of the PML-Q after PTI chairman Imran Khan offered Elahi to join the PTI.
