Former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khas has urged the chief justice of Pakistan, Justice Umar Atta Bandial, to “back” the inquiry into the assassination bid on him. In a video statement on Thursday, Imran Khan said Punjab police was not being helpful in investigating the assassination attempt on him on November 3 in Punjab’s Wazirabad.
Imran Khan questioned why the Gujrat district police chief recordeded the statement of prime suspect Naveed, who was arrested with a gun from the spot, and released it to ’anti-PTI journalists, who then promptly tweeted that the attacker was a lone wolf.
Imran Khan said he wanted to ask the police chief who had instructed him to record the video and send it to journalists.
The PTI chief said PML-N leaders Maryam Nawaz, Javed Latif, and Rana Sanaullah had delivered speeches against him and claimed that there was anger among people against Imran because he had hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim majority in the country.
Imran Khan said he did not expect justice since powerful people were involved in the plot against him.
“How would they allow justice to prevail if they themselves are involved in [the attack]. Only if a powerful inquiry is backed by the chief justice of the Supreme Court, only then could justice be ensured. Otherwise, the situation that I have seen, the way hurdles have appeared everywhere, I have no hope for justice,” Imran Khan said before ending his statement with ‘Pakistani Zindaabad’.
