It has been 15 years since Benazir Bhutto, a two time prime minister and the first Muslim woman to be elected head of government, was assassinated in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007.
An entire generation has grown up since her passing and we wanted to find out what they know about the woman who dominated Pakistan’s political landscape for two decades.
Our Peshawar Bureau Chief Farzana Ali spoke to some youngsters in Peshawar’s Faqeerabad area on her death anniversary.
Here are some of the responses we received:
Samama, 15
“Yes, I know she was Bilawal Bhutto’s mother and the wife of Asif Ali Zardari. She also became the prime minister of Pakistan. She was a good girl. An incident happened with her in which she died.”
Anusha, 8
“I don’t know anything about Benazir but I know that she is dead”
Shafahat, 13
“I am 13 years old and I know a little bit about Benazir but not much. She was the mother of Bhutto and she is dead”
Hammad, 14
“I know Benazir. She was the mother of Bilawal Bhutto and wife of Asif Zardari. I don’t know what happened to her.”
Ask what your 14-year-old knows about Benazir and let us know in the comments section.
