Babar Azam breaks Mohammad Yousuf’s runs record

All-format captain Babar Azas achieved another milestone on Monday as he became the leading runs-getter for Pakistan in a calendar year.

The 28-year-old achieved the feat during the first Test between Pakistan and New Zealand at the National Bank Cricket Arena.

He came to bat when Pakistan were reduced to 48/3 in the first session of day one. The right-hander scored 13 to break the record set by batting coach Mohammad Yousuf when he scored 2,435 runs in 2006.

So far, Babar Azam has scored 735 runs in T20Is, 679 in ODIs, and over 1,050 runs in the longest format of the game.

Moreover, he also became only the sixth Pakistan batter to score over 1,000 Test runs in a calendar year.

While this was the seventh occasion of a Pakistani batter scoring 1,000 Test runs in a calendar year, Babar is the sixth cricketer from the country to do so as Younis Khan achieved this feat twice.
