Gen Faiz Hameed retired says no plans to enter politics

Pakistan’s former spymaster Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed retired has rejected claims that he was entering politics in the wake of a viral video in which locals from his village Latifal in Punjab’s Chakwal were eulogising him.

In the video, which emerged on Thursday, the recently retired army officer is in an open area where an event is taking place. A local leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf sings his praise and asks him to join politics.

Some users of Pakistan Twitter claimed that the visuals were from a PTI corner meeting. Most insinuated that this was to set the ground for his entry into politics.

Aaj News correspondent, however, said the the event was held at the general’s residence where some people had come for a meet and greet.

It is common for military officers to host such events at their house on retirement.

As insinuations and outright claims skirted on social media, journalist Ansar Abbasi quizzed General Faiz on the matter.

The former ISI chief said that he he had no plan to enter politics, not after two years of his retirement or after that.

Army officers are not allowed to enter politics for at least two years after retirement.

Faiz Hameed also termed Shama Junejo’s claim as a “complete lie” in which he has said that “the real threat to Imran Khan is not PDM but his very dear friend General Faiz who has given PTI this Preparing to take over when Imran Khan is incapacitated and arrested.”

UK-based political scientist Shama Junejo had claimd that Faiz Hameed had organized the meeting in Chakwal himself where he was “officially” invited to join politics.

General Hameed retired told Abbasi that he was in his village when his relatives and some other people came to visit him. One of them did ask him to join politics but he has no such aspirations.
