Punjab assembly dissolution: PTI, PML-N gearing up

Imran Khan’s announcement of leaving ‘all assemblies’ on Saturday has set off a buzz off activity in both government and oppossition circles. While PTI’s majority in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seems relatively secure, all eyes are set on Punjab.

So here are the latest movements from both parties.

PML-N starts movement for VONC against Elahi

PML-N has begun work to file a vote of no confidence against Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi. Aaj’s Saeed Baloch reported that the party’s Punjab leadership has started reahing out to members of the assembly to get their signatures for the motion. In the first round, members from the Gujranwala and Lahore division were called and their signatures secured.

Attaullah Tarrar also said that talks with PPP are underway and that PML-N has lauded Asif Zardari’s ‘political vision’. News reports have already indicated that Zardari might set off on another mission Lahore.

PTI leader meets Elahi

PTI leader Pervez Khattak met CM Punjab Parvez Elahi in Islamabad on Tuesday, in Islambad’s Punjab House. Aaj’s Tania Gohar reported that both leaders discussed ‘aspects of the assembly’s rules of procedure’.

Elahi said that bringing a no-confidence motion or imposing governor rule in the province can only be a far-fetched dream for the province.

Asad Umar said on Monday that the final date for dissolution will be announced ‘soon’, but with the slow pace of events, it does not seem like the matter will be settled soon.
