King Salman on Tuesday announced that Wednesday is a public holiday for all employees and all students, following Saudi Arabia’s historic victory against Argentina in the FIFA World Cup.
The Hervé Renard’s side stunned the two-time world cup winners as they came from behind to secure a memorable 2-1 victory at the Lusail Stadium.
King Salman approved a suggestion made by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to celebrate the national team’s victory with a holiday.
All public and private sector employees and students at all educational stages will be given a holiday, Saudi Press Agency reported.
This isn’t the first time a public holiday has been declared after a World Cup win.
Cameroon’s victory over Argentina in the 1990 FIFA World Cup also saw a holiday the very next day.
