The cavalcade of PTI’s ‘Azadi March’ would reach Gujrat today (Friday) after leaving Wazirabad as the party presses the ruling coalition to announce snap elections.
Meanwhile, Punjab authorities beefed up security at Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence in Lahore. The PTI chief has also limited his political engagement and will be seeing only a couple of party leaders today.
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry says that security was increased after Punjab Special Branch issued an alert about another possible attack on Khan. The former prime minister survived an assassination attempt on November 3 in Wazirabad.
The long march, which resumed from Wazirabad on Thursday, would be led by party leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Khan will address the marchers via a video link.
The cavalcade would be welcomed at Chenab Bridge, Ramtalai Chowk, and at the GTS Chowk.
Supporters of PTI and the allied party in Punjab PML-Q would separately welcome the procession at different locations.
Imran’s address via video link would be shown on a big screen at the GTS Chowk, sources said.
“The journey of Haqeeqi Azadi March has resumed from Wazirabad. Our resolve is firm and our spirits are high. The hard work of our injured supporters and the sacrifice of martyrs will definitely pay off,” Qureshi said in a tweet on Friday.
He expressed hope that Imran would lead the troop from Rawalpindi.
