A man who made a death threat against Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja and his family has been arrested from Islamabad airport, reported Aaj News on Friday.
The accused, identified as Khurram Mehboob, was escaping abroad in disguise, said law enforcement at Islamabad airport.
Threats were made from multiple accounts on Twitter and other social media platforms following the ECP’s disqualification verdict against PTI chief Imran Khan.
The accounts shared the names of family members of the CEC while calling for his residential address to be made public in order to “avenge” the decision against Imran.
In numerous press conferences and public appearances, Imran accused the CEC of being in the pockets of the PML-N.
Raja was appointed to the post during Imran Khan’s tenure as prime minister.
