ISLAMABAD: The funeral prayers of Sarah Inam, a 37-year-old Canadian-Pakistani woman who was killed allegedly by her husband Shahnawaz Amir on Friday, were offered in Islamabad’s Shahzad Town on Wednesday.
“I request the courts to award strict punishment to suspects. If prompt justice will prevail then incidents like Noor Muqaddam and Sara will not occur,” Sarah’s father, Inam Rahim, told reporters after the funeral prayers where a large number of family and relatives of the deceased were present.
“The suspect is a greedy person who wanted to usurp Sarah’s wealth. Such people entice girls,” he added.
Sarah Inam’s family members, including her father, arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday, from Canada.
They met with police officials shortly after their arrival.
On Wednesday, Sarah Inam’s brother received her boy at Islamabad’s Federal Government Polyclinic hospital.
Sarah married Shahnawaz Amir, the son of analyst Ayaz Amir, only recently. Shahnawaz allegedly killed him using a gym dumbbell and dumped his body in a bathtub at their farmhouse residence in Chak Shehzad.
He was arrested shortly after the crime and is being interrogated by the police.
‘Strict punishment’
Inam Rahim, Sarah’s father, claimed that Shahnawaz’s behaviour was questionable from the beginning. “He used to take the money and Sarah did not tell us. He wanted to loot Sarah,” he told reporters.
He added that his daughter was born in Libya and got an education in Canada. Sarah’s mother wanted that her daughter gets shifted to Pakistan.
“She was grown up and made her own decisions. Sarah informed us that she got married,” Rahim said, adding that he had a conversation with Shanawaz a couple of times.
The father demanded that the suspect should get strict punishment.
