At least one labourer died and 10 got injured when an under-construction building collapsed in the Surjani Town area of Karachi on Monday night.
The four-storey structure is located near the Green Bus terminal in Sector 4-D in the jurisdiction of the Surjani Town police station.
Police was notified at around 12:50am about the collapse, after which the station house officer went to the scene to manage the rescue efforts, said the police spokesperson for district West. They added that relevant rescue departments were notified about the building collapse.
Visuals from the site show people and policemen using tools to remove the rubble in search of survivors.
The injured were taken to the hospital, with varying levels of injuries. Majority of those injured are labourers and include a 17 year old.
Pakistan Rangers personnel are also at the site assisting with the rescue efforts. Both the police and Rangers say more labourers are believed to be trapped under the rubble.
Area residents stated that the area under the building was used as a de facto parking area by rickshaw drivers.
