The family of the young man who died after myseriously falling from the 17th floor of a high-rise residential complex in Karachi’s upscale Defence area believe that the death was neither accident nor suicide.
26-year-old Adil, a graduate from Karachi’s most prestigious business school, was found dead outside Pearl Tower 3 of Emaar Crescent Bay around 5am on Sunday.
The victim’s brother - who flew to Karachi after being informed of the death - filed a complaint at the Sahil police station. The first information report (FIR) has been filed under Section 334 (murder without intention).
Police said the victim, a resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, was at the apartment in Defence Phase VIII with at least six other friends on Saturday night.
At around 5am, the victim went to the terrace and the incident occured. The initial police report said that the group was taking drugs. Those who were at the crime scene have since been taken into custody. The body was sent to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem after which further details will emerge.
Police say that initial inquiry suggests that it was an ‘accident’.
According to the family member’s complaint, the group had rented the apartment for Rs25,000 for one night. It said that the victim’s friends fled the scene after the incident, leaving the body behind.
Residents and building staff found of the body lying on the ground and informed authorities.
Initial videos and posts shared on social media pages claimed that the friends left the crime scene soon after the incident.
The victim is survived by three sisters and a mother.
