The teaser of Christopher Nolan-directed film Oppenheimer has been released and Peaky Blinders lead actor Cillian Murphy dons the role of physicist J Robert Oppenheimer in the biopic, which is scheduled to release on July 21, 2023.
“The world is changing,” echoes a voice in the background as the ‘Oppenheimer Announcement’ begins with scenes after a bomb explodes.
The movie is based on the life of physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, who worked with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, which led to the development of the atomic bomb. Such an invention devastated Japan on August 6, 1945, during World War II.
“The force from which sun draws its power has been loose,” echoes another voice and the lead actor clip comes on the trailer.
Nolan, who is famous for movies like Inception, Interstellar, Tenet, and The Dark Knight, has also written the movie.
Oppenheimer is reported to have a budget of $100 million and a swathe of Hollywood A-listers on hand to deliver the final product. It will see Cillian Murphy joined by Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Josh Hartnett, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Dane DeHaan and Kenneth Branagh. Oscar-winner Gary Oldman would be making a cameo.
Earlier this month, the filmmakers released a new poster showing a dark Cillian Murphy silhouetted in front of an enormous explosion.
The poster was accompanied by the release date and features the names of four other cast members.
“I’ll always turn up for Chris, whatever the size of the part. Chris will call me up and I’m there,” Murphy had said in an interview with The Guardian. Murphy is collaborating with Nolan for the fifth time.
