Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader MPA and Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh was arrested by the Anti-Corruption department over corruption charges.
Anti-Corruption Director Zeeshan Memon arrested the PTI leader in a joint operation with Jamshoro and Hyderabad police.
Sheikh appeared before the department officials in an investigation relating to a land grabbing case filed against him when he was taken into custody.
PTI lawmakers protested against the arrest during the Sindh Assembly session Wednesday. After chanting slogans in the halls, the PTI walkers staged a walkout.
Meanwhile, the leader of the PTI Karachi faction Bilal Ghaffar condemned Sheikh’s arrest saying that the Sindh government has crossed all limits of retaliatory actions.
He said that PTI’s success in Punjab was being avenged in Sindh, adding that the provincial government should not consider the opposition leader alone and demanded the immediate release of Sheikh.
Earlier on July 6, Lahore’s Gulberg police in a joint operation with Sindh anti-Corruption department had arrested Sheikh from Park Lane Hotel in the provincial capital.
