Netflix has released the trailer for Darlings starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew. It will be available to watch on August 5.

The story revolves around Badrunissa (Alia Bhatt) and her mother (Shefali Shah) navigating domestic abuse at the hands of Badrunissa’s husband Hamza (Vijay Varma).

The trailer begins with Hamza announcing that he is about to leave Badrunissa, after which he goes missing. Badrunissa and her mother then go to the police station to a missing person complaint. In reality, Badrunissa and her mother have locked Hamza up, something the police already suspect them of.

This complaint is the start of a journey of revenge against Hamza. Badrunissa says, “I will do to him exactly what he has done to me.” What seemed like a perfect romance on the outside was actually a toxic and abusive relationship and Badrunissa has had enough. She states that she will no longer play defense, and it is her turn to strike an offense against Hamza.

Badrunissa and her mother hence, end up kidnapping Hamza in attempts to teach him a lesson. They give him a taste of his own medicine.

“Darlings holds a very special place in my heart, it’s my first film as a producer!” says Alia about the film.
