Nasir Khan Jan says don't have girlfriends, get married instead

Social media influencer Nasir Khan Jan, 30, from Peshawar is undoubtedly one of the sweetest people on the internet. In a world where Pakistani actors are stealing breakfast photos from international influencers, Jan unabashedly remains himself.

He first emerged on YouTube in 2016, with a short video he filmed of himself saying hello. The caption asked people to follow his Facebook profile as well. The videos were primarily in Pashto at the start, with him showing tourist attractions to his followers.

Soon after he recorded his first video in English, asking people to follow his social media pages. He has been relentlessly putting out content, where he is covering songs, eating food and sometimes even dancing. He also started wishing people on their birthdays against a nominal amount that has remained unchanged over the years.

Six years down the line and many song covers and birthday videos later, Nasir Khan Jan is a celebrity on social media but a lot of feedback he receives is negative and mostly from Pakistani men. They hurl abuses at him, while also speaking ill about his family sometimes.

His gender and even the friends he chooses to keep have been under scrutiny, but one thing that never changes is Jan’s positive attitude. Aaj News had a quick chat with him just to find out how.

How do you remain so positive despite the hate that comes your way?

“Comments and things have become so common on social media nowadays that even very big celebrities get negative comments. There are always negative and positive comments. I give a lot of attention to the positive and I focus on that positivity. People should also do and appreciate positive things, and they should stay far away from negativity,” he said.

Q: The economy is crashing and the prices of almost all necessary as well as luxury commodities have gone up, despite the inflation, one can book a personalised birthday message from you for a mere Rs3,000. What made you not increase the price?

Jan: “All I would want to say is that I have kept these charges and I don’t want to be a burden on my fans, everyone is putting effort in and I am trying too. Expenses have also increased and if I increase my charges too then it’ll be really difficult right?” he said.

Q: You said in one of your videos that your wife speaks Persian while you speak Pashto and sometimes it is difficult to understand each other, then how do you manage?

Jan: “My wife is Afghani, she speaks Persian and I am a Pakistani and it’s not like we don’t understand each other because the language of the heart is still one.”

“The Pashto language is the same and she also understands Urdu which is why it is easier for us to understand each other and we have always had an understanding. The life we are spending together is very easy for both of us.”

Q: You recently had a son, congratulations. What did you name him?

“I have mentioned my son on my social account and have also posted a picture of him. Mashallah he is very good-looking and his name is Ayaan Khan Jan.”

Q: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

“What I would like to say to my fans is that the reason I am where I am today is because of my them. I hope you guys stay happy and with that try and keep other people happy too. A lot of people are into girlfriends and stuff nowadays, don’t get into that, just get married, make a home for yourself and stay happy. Whoever has elders in their homes please remember to respect and take care of them. Mashallah everything I am today is because of my fans and my elders. Thank you.”
