Karachi: One per cent of seats have been allocated for people out of the transgender community in the Sindh by-elections.
According to Aaj News, each union council in 25 towns of Karachi will have one per cent seats for transgender persons.
Shehzadi Rai has been nominated as the candidate who will contest the polls.
She has said this is the first step towards success.
“Gender Interactive Alliance is an institute for transgender persons, where they are provided trainings. Our transgender people come from a background where they do not have political knowledge.”
Earlier, local government act only allowed reserved seats for women, minorities, farmers, youth and labourers.
However, after the amendment in the law, transgender persons were also added to the list.
