Police often use social media to post pictures of criminals they have nabbed or weapons recovered after raids but this time a photoshoot has cost the Gujrat police dearly.
The Daulat Nagar police station in Punjab’s Gujrat caught a female criminal and posted their customary photoshoot with her, also featuring a tall, broad burka-clad female constable.
The picture looked suspicious and it was later found that since there were no female officers or constables present at the station, a man was made to pose with the female drug dealer.
According to the Police Act, the presence of a female police officer is mandatory if a woman is being arrested.
The Daulat Nagar SHO was also featured in the photograph, prompting Gujrat District Police Officer Attaur Rehman to suspend the SHO.
An investigation has also been started against the SHO and Saddar DSP has been appointed as the inquiry officer in this regard.
The DSP has since claimed that there was a female officer accompanying the team when the arrests were made but she was not there at the time of the photograph.
