The defamation case involving Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut has been ongoing for a while. The issue has undoubtedly piqued the media’s interest, and so far, we’ve seen both parties appear in court to give their side of the story.
According to Sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, the actress is accused of defamation. Following the passing of Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020, lyricist Javed Akhtar filed a complaint against Kangana for using his name in an interview and referring to a “coterie” in Bollywood.
Later, Ranaut filed a counter-complaint against Akhtar in the same court, accusing him of extortion and criminal intimidation. In her lawsuit against Akhtar, the actress claimed that the lyricist had summoned her and her sister Rangoli Chandel to his home after she had a public spat with co-star Hrithik Roshan with “malafide intentions and ulterior goals” before “criminally intimidating and threatening” her.
This is her third court appearance after Akhtar filed the case against her in November 2020. Ranaut came around 4:45 pm Indian time, and the magistrate ordered everyone to leave because she didn’t want a “media trial”. Only her sister and her attorney were to be there when the actress recorded her statement for the case. In her taped statement, Kangana entered a not-guilty plea. which implies the case’s trial can now start.
“We will not take time to put up impostors, then it will be open to the public to know that your affair was not with Hrithik but with impostors, then your face will be blackened, there will be so much infamy in the public that you will have no other way except suicide. We have evidence, they have all the ministries, apologise and save yourself. A girl from a good family will be drowned in shame. If you have little shame to save your honour, then don’t insist,” Kangana attributed this statement to Javed Akhtar when she accused him of harassment.
In addition, Kangana claimed that Javed Akhtar caused a mental disturbance by encouraging her to kill herself.
