KARACHI: The people of Karachi should not keep back their umbrellas and raincoats, weather analyst Owais Hyder said on Monday, as showers were expected in the afternoon or evening.
“Because, there are forecasts for rain today [Monday in Karachi],” he said on the Aaj News morning show. “Activities are possible and developments [related to showers] are expected in surrounding [areas of] Karachi.”
The Met Office on Sunday said that the weather system in Sindh and Balochistan has weakened in its intensity, as its core has shifted to the south-southwest of Karachi in the Arabian Sea.
“However, it may give rain and thundershowers at scattered places in Sindh [Tharparkar, Umarkot, Thatta, Badin, Sangarh, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Karachi) and Balochistan (Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kharan, Panjgur] from Sunday [evening/night] to Wednesday,” it said in a statement.
The weather analyst was of the view that rain and heavy winds might continue till Tuesday (tomorrow). “There are humid conditions in Karachi because of which we sweat too much.”
Hyder reiterated that the weather experts have forecasted that rain would fall in Karachi in the first week of July. “The spell could expand till Eid,” he said, “we can say that Karachi may receive 100mm rain before Eid.”
