It just took ‘45 days’ to complete Dubai airport’s new runway

DUBAI: It took only 45 days for engineers and people to complete the work on the northern runway of Dubai International Airport, officials said.

“Now, the northern runway is back in service,” Paul Griffiths, Dubai Airports CEO, said in a video message. “We are operating at full capacity. Our runway is clearly a major part of the reliability of the operation.”

Salient features of Northern Runway Rehabilitation Programme

  • People worker round the clock to complete it
  • 400 engineers and 3,800 people from the aviation community worked
  • 4,500-metre central strip of runway
  • Over 4,000 airfield lights upgraded and installed
  • Returns to dual-runway operation
  • Northern runway reopened for first flight on June 22

The chief executive officer expressed confidence that they would give reliable service for the next 10 years.

“Dubai airport is absolutely the key pillar of the city’s economy,” Griffiths said, “having our runways fully fit for purpose and able to take the intense use that so many aircraft landing here every single hour of every single day is obviously something that we can look forward with confidence for the future to say that we are fit and ready to serve to the city of Dubai.”
