Instagram is redesigning its feed! It will now have a full-screen feed, with comments and likes displayed on the post instead of below it.
Does that remind you of any other video-forward application?
The application is trying to look more like TikTok, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirming that the new interface has begun to be rolled out to some users.
Zuckerberg said Instagram wants to “make it easier to discover content and connect with friends” with the new interface.
Instagram has been trying to pull people back from apps like Snapchat and TikTok but how the new interface will achieve that is still not known.
Even though the size of the screen has been increased, the placement of the buttons remains the same. How the algorithm will function is something we will just have to see.
It makes sense for Meta to redesign the app as Instagram initially started as a photosharing app and videos were later added since the medium gained popularity online.
Photographers have no fear though, Zuckerberg has not forgotten photos and is “working on ways to improve the way they show up in a full-screen Feed too.” This will be great since Instagram is not the best to use on large screens or foldable phones.
If you end up with the new interface on your phone after an update, make sure you offer feedback to Zuckerberg.
