Headlines at 9am: Rain, energy conservation, PPP’s ‘next govt’, PTI protest, FATF’s nod

  • Intermittent rains with strong winds and thundershowers were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Northeast Balochistan. Shower expected in Karachi. Parts of the Dera Bugti district in Balochistan were flooded overnight with rainwater accumulated in streets, markets, and canals.

  • Following the Sindh government pattern, Punjab and the Islamabad administration have decided to shut the markets till 9pm in order to deal with the energy crisis.

  • PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has claimed that his party would form the next government and in such a situation, it would change the country by 110 degrees. He called PTI chief Imran Khan ‘anokha ladla’, whose policies led to inflation.

  • The PTI has announced its decision to have a countrywide protest on Sunday (today) against the soaring inflation. Party chief Imran would announce the next course of action in a video link address.

  • Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani has said that the Financial Action Task Force, the global anti-money laundering watchdog, has acknowledged the completion of both action plans by Pakistan. “Pakistan is one step away from exiting the FATF ‘grey list’ and we are closely working with FATF to arrange a meeting,” she said in a press conference in the federal capital after arriving from Berlin.
