Headlines at 8am: Monsoon weather, FATF hope, Eid ul Azha preparations

  • Monsoon updates: The yearly monsoon season has started in Karachi with some light rain reported Friday. In the upper parts of Pakistan rain and thunder showers have been predicted for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, northeastern Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir today.There has been flooding in streams after it rained in Dera Bugti.

  • Balochistan attack: A labour camp was attacked Friday. Three workers were killed and three injured. The attackers set fire to the camp and vehicles.

  • FATF grey list: Pakistan welcomed the news that after four years it had met conditions to tackle terrorism financing and money laundering to be taken off the grey list. Next, an FATF team will visit Pakistan to review measures taken. According to Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, if all goes well, we could expect to be in the clear by October.

  • Sindh market timings: Markets and shopping centres must close by 9pm to save energy, the government said. Traders were not happy with the decision.

  • Eid ul Azha 2022: Cattle markets or mawashi mandi have opened across Pakistan as people prepare for the Eid of sacrifice in the first week of July.
