The fact that Netflix’s blockbuster series “Squid Game” would get a second season was never in doubt. Season 2 was confirmed by creator Hwang Dong-hyuk in November 2021.
The show became Netflix’s most-watched series soon after its release. Dong-Hyuk, who is most known for his work on South Korean films such as The Fortress, Miss Granny, and Silenced, is the writer-director of Squid Game.
The show revolves around a group of 456 cash-strapped players who agreed to compete in children’s games on a remote island in the hopes of winning 456 billion won. However, they soon discover that the reward comes with deadly high risks.
The series received three Golden Globe nominations as a byproduct of its success, with South Korean veteran actor O Yeong-Su winning Best Supporting Actor in a Series for his role as Oh Il-Nam/Player 001.
It was also the first non-English production to receive four major SAG nominations: Outstanding Male Actor for Lee Jung-Jae, Outstanding Female Actor for Jung Ho-Yeon, Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble, and Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble.
