Three men arrested for raping woman on train

Three men were arrested on Monday on charges of raping a woman who was travelling from Muzaffargarh to Karachi on the Zakaria Express.

The woman, a resident of Orangi Town, went to her former husband’s home in Punjab to meet her children, according to a first information report registered at Karachi Railway police station.

SSP Railway Mehar Abbas said she did not get tickets on her way back to Karachi but the ticker checker of a private company identified as Zahid trapped her and offered her an AC berth. One of them scared her and asked her to pay extra charges for the AC compartment. The three men, then raped her, said the FIR.

In a series of tweets, Pakistan Railway condemned the attack and said the rape was not initially reported to the police station. It was published in an Urdu daily newspaper after which action was taken.

On the request of the divisional superintendent Karachi, the woman then recorded her statement against the accused.
