Rail fares may increase by 10 to 20 per cent adding pressure to the already squeezed incomes by rising inflation.
Amid the recent hike in fuel prices in Pakistan by the PM Shehbaz Sharif government, Pakistan Railways (PR) is likely to raise its fares soon. The Railway Headquarters have forwarded recommendations to increase fares by 15 to 20 percent.
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique will review the recommendation for approval, after which the price hike would be implemented.
Reportedly, the Pakistan Railways (PR) is incurring losses to the of Rs1.84 million on a daily basis owing to the surge in diesel prices.
The government on Thursday increased the petrol rates by Rs30 per liter - a 20% increase - for the highest ever rate. This price hike came talks between the Pakistan government and IMF in Doha.
