Balochistan chilgoza forest fire contained: Govt spokesperson Farah Azeem Shah

A fire that ravaged Balochistan’s Chilgoza (pinenut) forest for over ten days has finally been put out, said Balochistan Government Spokesperson Farah Azeem Shah live on Sidra Iqbal’s show Aaj Pakistan.

“It was a collective administrative effort and the honourable prime minister took immediate action while the Islamic Republic of Iran sent in a firefight aircraft,” she said.

The fire fighting started on May 19.

Research teams are finding what the cause of the fire actually was but according to initial reports, fires in the areas of Tor Ghar and Chamazai were caused when dry vegetation caught fire due to the recent drought, which was made worse by high-velocity winds. In Zimri, a lightning strike caused the fire.

In Khajuri, “unawareness of the people” was probably behind the inferno. “Sometimes people take gas cylinders for picnics and do not understand the consequences, especially when the weather is dry.”
