Punjab police have arrested three men in connection with the abuction of a teenage girl in broad daylight from Lahore, Aaj News reported on Tuesday.
Abid, Ilyas and Aftab were nabbed from Multan after they had changed their location multiple times to avoid arrest.
The case of the 17-year-old girl gained nationwide attention after CCTV footage of her abduction from Lahore’s Shadbagh went viral on social media. It showed armed men intercepting the girl, who was on a motorbike with her brother, and taking her away at gunpoint.
She was recovered on Sunday night - the same day as she was abducted - after the Lahore High Court ordered the Punjab inspector general to produce her before the court by 10:00 pm.
It was later revealed that the girl had been abducted by her ex-fiancé.
In her statement, the girl told the police that she was forcefully taken to Pakpattan where Abid forced her to sign nikkah papers. On her refusal, he tortured her physically. However, Abid and his accomplices did not attempt to harass her sexually, it said in the statement.
The accused took her to Kasur initially and then moved her to Pakpattan, read the statement.
After the video of abduction went viral on social media and the chief justice of the Lahore High Court took notice of the incident, the accused left her at a bus stop in Pakpattan’s Arifwala, some 200 kms from where she was abducted.
