President Alvi asks CJP to form judicial commission to investigate ‘regime change’

President Arif Alvi Thursday has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial asking him to form a judicial commission to investigate the regime change conspiracy in the country.

In his letter, the president urged CJ Bandial to head the commission himself and conduct an open hearing to thoroughly probe the conspiracy.

“The judicial commission should conduct an in-depth and thorough investigation into what may or may not have been planning and preparation, starting before or following the overt threat, in the form of a possible conspiracy for regime change in Pakistan,” read a statement issued by the president’s secretariat.

The letter comes in response to a letter the former prime minister had written to the president and CJP requesting a public inquiry as well as the formation of a judicial commission to probe a “threat letter” which the PTI chairman claimed was evidence of the “conspiracy” behind the no-confidence motion that saw him voted out of office.

“It is our duty, indeed of all institutions, to do everything possible to avert serious country damaging consequences,” the president stated.
