Google reveals smart glasses prototype, adds 24 languages to Google Translate

Google just revealed their smart glasses. Even though no release date has been confirmed, the new invention will also translate and transcribe languages in real time.

The glasses will allow text to scroll in front of the eyes like subtitles.

They are still in the prototype phase and there is no clear indication if they will become a product in the near future.

The tech giant has also their translating software to accommodate 24 new languages, including but not limited to Bhojpuri (spoken in India, Nepal and Fiji), Maithili (India) and Sanskrit. There are 133 languages now available on Google translate.

At least 300 million people will benefit from Google Translate’s newly added languages, said CEO Sundar Pichai.

This is the first time a company is using Zero-Shot Machine Translation.

This means “a machine learning model only sees monolingual text” and learns to translate “into another language without ever seeing an example”, said the CEO.
