Sheikh Rashid’s nephew handed over to police on two-day physical remand

Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s nephew, MNA Rashid Shafique, has been handed over to police on two-day physical remand, over his apparent involvement in the Masjid-e-Nabwi incident.

An FIR was registered in Faisalabad against 13 PTI leaders, including party chief and former PM Imran Khan, against the incident, in which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation were heckled and assaulted by Pakistani pilgrims.

The Federal Investigation Agency arrested Shafique from Islamabad airport and shifted him from the new Rawalpindi airport police station to Attock as another case was also registered against him there.

On Monday, Shafique was produced before Judicial magistrate Jamal Mahmood’s court after completion of one-day physical remand. The judge ordered police to produce the MNA again in the court on Wednesday.

PTI leaders, including Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari aka Zulfi Bukhari and Haleem Adil attended the court proceedings to express solidarity with Shafique.

After the court proceedings, Bukhari accused Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah of crafting a conspiracy against the PTI workers.
