KARACHI. The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi has eased the process of issuing the intermediate certificate to students by directly sending it to the colleges, ending the requirement for them to receive it from the board located in the North Nazimabad area of the city.

BIEK Chairman Prof Dr Saeeduddin told Aaj News that the decision was taken to facilitate to students.

“The decision to send the intermediate certificates of qualified students to the colleges has been taken to make the process hassle-free [for students].”

He was of the view that the change in practice would also reduce the burden on the board. He acknowledged that in the past there had been complaints about “agents” active around the BIEK office who would compel students to pay them in order to get their certificates issued, along with issues with the behaviour of staff members, and difficulties in the application process for acquiring the intermediate certificate.

Saeeduddin, who in his earlier role as head of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi was responisble for reforms, added that they have launched an online service for downloading the forms.

He said the students could also submit the fee challan to their nearest branch of the designated bank.

As per estimates, there are more than 300,000 students enrolled in the intermediate programme – including 250,000 regular and 75,000 private students.

According to the BIEK, the UBL is the authorised branch and the students can also complain if any branch refuses to accept the fee voucher. Moreover, the BIEK would not charge any fee from the college for issuing the certificates.

To a query over such a move, Saeeduddin said: “You have to compromise in order to bring change.”
